All in all, that was probably a good thing, because we found my
My mom has a black dress, and she wanted Madi and I to be in black as well, with sashes of this ribbon I fell in love with way back when we went invitation shopping and purchased simply because it was way too pretty not to. The guys are in shirts that are very similar in color to our sashes.
It just all came down to actually finding my dress yesterday. We went back to the Macys where we got my mom's dress because we needed to return a few things. While she stood in line to get her money back, I headed over to the dress department. The store was rather a mad house because it's prom season. I had very strict guidelines in mind while browsing through the dresses. I found one I really liked right off the bat, but it was the only one of it's style and quite a few sizes to small for me. Nothing else was fitting the bill. I thought we'd have to go somewhere else... when I saw it. The back wall of the department, where the dress skirts and cover ups hung. Hanging there, seemingly forgotten in the mad rush of abounding teenage girls present with parents and boyfriends and best friends, I knew that this would be my dress for my mother's big day. I showed it to her, and she had her considerable doubts. "Won't it just look like you're trying to wear a skirt as a dress" she asked. "Maybe," I replied, "we'll just have to try it on and see."
The fitting rooms near where our to-be purchase hung were overflowing with fore mentioned store patrons. We journeyed through the mad-house to the fitting rooms on the other side, and found them nearly empty. Into a room we went. Off came my clothes, and on went the dress. Much to the relief of my mother and I, it was PERFECT. Not just close to perfect, absolutely perfect. The idyll dress for me for this wedding. Details of it mimic those of my mother's without competing in any way. I thoughtfully packed the ribbon in my purse, before we left home, so we could try it to make sure it would work. Out came the ribbon, and as we pulled the loops of the bow taught, it became clear that this was most likely the most effortless shopping experience either of us would ever have again.
We made a few other purchases in the store, including my mom's new bare minerals make-up. Our representative was Nicole, so a special thanks must go out to her for contributing greatly to such a pleasurable shopping trip.
Upon getting home, my new dress was tried on again with the sash and the shoes I'd already ordered for this event a while back. The look was breath taking.
I can't believe everything is so close. All the family arrives next week. Everything is already being set up in the back yard. The attire is all ready, pending Madi's dress, which will hopefully be half as easy as finging my dress was.
The lesson learned through all this wedding stuff is; whatever works, works. If you don't like bridal gowns, and are comfortable in a beautiful black dress, rock it! If renting event tents is too expensive, buy pop-up garages from Home Depot instead. If you can't find an actual dress, wear a skirt as one.
Of course, due to recent experiences, none of this could be possible without the blessings of a provisional, loving God.
